The Lakes Pyes Pa

Brief

My clients were a family of five with an architecturally designed home set on a steep site. Their brief for the interiors was simple but clear: light, bright, and family-friendly.

We chose modern yet timeless finishes, with beautiful oak flooring and soft white walls as the base. The home, with its four bedrooms and two bathrooms spread across multiple split levels, needed both cohesion and character. To achieve this, we introduced a bold black feature wall in the entrance hall, creating a striking contrast with the fresh white kitchen and brass feature lighting—a subtle nod to the home’s exterior cladding and window joinery. To soften these strong elements, we layered in subtle curves throughout the design, from light fittings and mirrors to the kitchen island paneling, vanity fronts, and furnishings.

In the master bedroom, the aim was to create a calm retreat. We added a softly curved feature panel behind the bed and painted it a muted green, echoing the lush bush views framed by the window.

Throughout, the use of quality materials and thoughtful detailing ensures every room feels stylish, functional, and perfectly suited to a growing family.

This project was awarded a Regional Gold Award for the Central Plateau and Bay of Plenty in the 2025 House of the Year magazine—an achievement I am proud to have been part of.
